Plans to extend full fibre network across more of the south Wales valleys, in another multimillion pound boost for the region revealed.
Joining Porth and the six neighbouring towns and villages already confirmed, today’s announcement adds Tonyrefail and Tonypandy to the provider’s network in Rhondda Cynon Taff, with work already underway locally.
With average download speeds peaking at around 50Mbps in the south Wales valleys according to Thinkbroadband, Ogi’s full fibre network is set to start people off at three times that speed, with the providers entry level package starting at 150Mbps.
Speeds like this means popular video games like Grand Turismo 7 can be downloaded in minutes compared to hours*, with users also able to experience greater clarity when streaming 4K films and binge-worthy boxsets.
The bespoke network will be available to local businesses too, with access to Ogi’s world-class IT support and services giving local workplaces of all kinds the opportunity to be more productive, efficient and competitive.
Ogi propelled onto the scene with an ambitious multimillion-pound plan back in 2021 and since then has grown ten-fold; employing more than 180 staff and supporting hundreds of local jobs through its supply chain and four principal contractors.
Customers signing up continue to take advantage of the provider’s cost-of-living busting six months free deal, saving hundreds of pounds on their household bills at the start of their contract.
Commenting on the announcement, Ogi’s Chief Executive Officer, Ben Allwright, said: “As we see demand for reliable ultrafast speeds increase, our work becomes even more important.
“Our homes continue to get smarter, and with the cost-of-living crisis affecting everything we do, we’re seeing more and more people looking to improve the quality of their connectivity for work and entertainment at home.
Existing Ogi customer, Sian, added: “I was really struggling with connectivity at home; juggling homeworking and two avid gamers needs, Ogi’s full fibre offer couldn’t have come at a better time.
“It’s been a game changer for us; working flexibly from home, full fibre means I can access my work as effectively as if I was in the office – and the gamers in the house are downloading new levels at lighting fast speeds.
“We’ve always accepted slow speeds – but now, thanks to Ogi, reliable, and fast broadband is a real option, even when you live outside of the big towns and cities.”
This latest milestone brings access to the new full fibre technology closer than ever to people in Rhondda Cynon Taf. The active cabinet contains the tech behind the Gigabit-capable network, with the potential to provide ultrafast broadband – that’s 150Mbps or higher – to more than 15,000 homes and businesses in the area when switched on later this year.
