Headline sponsor for the Ogi Porthcawl 10K for a second year running, Ogi and race organisers Run4Wales are gearing up for the July 10K and junior races with a special event aimed at school groups.
During National School Sports Week [17-23 June], schools are invited to take part in a special Ogi Jogi races of 800m or one mile. Twenty schools, chosen by a public vote will get a complete race event pack – including race numbers and finish line tape – plus £150 to kick-start a school fundraising effort.
The idea is to get teachers, pupils, parents and carers involved in school fundraising efforts in an inclusive way. Races are designed to give people of all ages and abilities the chance to enjoy some time outside of the classroom – and raise some money for the wider school community.
Announcing the call out to schools, Louise Clement, Community Engagement Lead, said: “Community is a big part of everything we do at Ogi, and this event – getting schools out of the classroom for a bit of fun and to raise money for the community – is a fantastic way of showing that.
“Last years event at Newton Primary School in Porthcawl was so much fun – and it’s great that we’re able to extend it to even more areas this year.
Steve Brace, Race Director at Run 4 Wales, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Ogi again for the Ogi Porthcawl 10K. At Run 4 Wales we’re extremely passionate about getting as many children and young people as active as possible, so we’re thrilled to be working with the Ogi team to roll out the Ogi Jogi to even more schools in the area, following the success of last year.
“Not only will the initiative encourage fundraising and physical activity in people across the whole school community but it may also help instill a love of running and inspire them to get involved in our series of NextGen events.”
The award-winning community fund ‘Cefnogi’ will support the school’s fundraising efforts, with around £3,000 being guaranteed for the Ogi Jogi schools.
