Iconic Welsh village Pontypandy prepares to join the full fibre revolution as Ogi gets residents online for the first time.
In a county first for Ogi, work starts in the rural Powys village this week, with plans to connect most homes and businesses – including the local fire station – within the month.
Today’s announcement is a welcome addition to Ogi’s expanding network across south Wales, and is another multimillion pound boost for the region.
The bespoke network will be available to local businesses and public services too, with access to Ogi’s world-class IT support and services giving local workplaces of all kinds the opportunity to be more productive, efficient and competitive.
Focused on mostly post-industrial and rural towns and villages, Ogi is quickly becoming known as the broadband provider of choice for Wales – not distracted by other regions of the UK.
Commenting on the latest rollout news, Chief Executive Officer, Ben Allwright, said: “We’re chuffed to be starting work in Pontypandy this week – a community well-known in Wales and beyond. We’ve a burning ambition to reach smaller communities like Pontypandy – those often left behind, but no less important places that contribute to the Welsh economy.
“I – and the Ogi team – look forward to meeting local characters as the rollout takes shape over the next few weeks.”
Local resident, Norman Price, added: “It’s brilliant! My mam is really happy about it – saying that it’ll keep me out of trouble once and for all.
“The town is on fire with excitement, we actually can’t wait for Ogi to come now!”
With average download speeds peaking at around 50Mbps in the surrounding valleys according to Thinkbroadband, Ogi’s full fibre network is set to start locals off at four times that speed, with a 200Mbps entry level package starting at £15 a month.
Speeds like these mean popular video games like Grand Turismo 7 can be downloaded in minutes compared to hours*, with users also able to experience greater clarity when streaming 4K films and binge-worthy boxsets.
Ogi propelled onto the scene with an ambitious multimillion-pound plan back in 2021 and since then has grown ten-fold; employing more than 220 staff and supporting hundreds of local jobs through its supply chain and four principal contractors.
The challenger brand has now reached over 100,000 premises and signed up over 15,000 customers to its full fibre network – installing new connections in some of Wales’s most rural settings, often with little to no existing infrastructure. The business is one of Wales’s fastest growing brands, investing £200m as part of its first phase plans.
